August is nearly over! I can’t believe it. This summer has flown by but I am looking forward to fall. I could use a little cooler air, leaves falling, and boots! I just decided on our family Halloween costume and can’t wait to show you…in two months.
Favorites of August
NASASocial: This was definitely my favorite thing in the month of August, and it just happened last week! Heading to Langley Research Center for the #NASASocial was a great experience. You can read all about my day at Langley here. I really hope to participate in more NASASocials in the area and maybe even travel to a launch one day!
Money: We didn’t find the gold at the end of the rainbow, but we are absolutely spending less than we usually do. We’re making sure we pack lunches to not spend out while at work. We’re making sure we don’t go out to eat too often. We’re not making bad purchases of things we want. We’re also trying to use cash more. Being able to see how much I am spending has kept that money in my wallet for another day.
Family: We visited family early in the month and didn’t hit much traffic thankfully! It’s always nice to see everyone and even better when the 4+ hour car ride isn’t too bad. Rion did sleep on the way home for a big chunk of the ride which I didn’t expect but was a welcome change! It’s not easy entertaining a toddler who just wants to run around for several hours while he sits in one place. He fell asleep without crying on the way back which was amazing. This rarely happens. This also means the next trip is going to be horrible because the last one went too well.
Could Do Without
Not hitting the beach: We did not get to the beach in August. I was really trying to get there more often, but we just didn’t get to do this. I’m bummed as summer is almost over and I don’t want to regret not going enough.
Migraines: This month has been especially bad for my headaches and migraines. I am hoping with the cooler air it’ll calm down. Rion has been teething so I’m not able to rest as much as I want to. That’s been a bit hellish to say the least.
Changes at work: We had a big change at work that is going to bring big changes for me. I am hoping it’s for the better. Right now, I am unsure of where I stand and hopefully will know more by the end of the week. We lost a leader who I support. It’s a fantastic opportunity for him and I know there will be someone to fill those shoes in the future.
Creamy Parmesan Garlic Mushroom Chicken from The Recipe Critic was the winner for the month. So easy to make and so so good! This will be added to the rotation with some minor changes to the original recipe to our liking.
Weight Loss Journey
After spending too much time sitting down, I’m back on the wagon. I have been taking walks with Rion after work. I have been getting up every single hour and moving at my desk. I have been taking my afternoon lunch time walks. I am slowly but surely adding in healthier food options.
I need to focus on not eating whatever pastries are around because those are my weakness. All of them. They need to not be around or just be less delicious.
I want to get my sugar under control again. I’ve definitely gone overboard and need to take a step back. First, eliminating it from my coffee. Eliminating coffee will never happen so I just need to make it healthier. Second, stop with the dang pastries.
I want to do Couch to 5k, too. I really want to run a 5k. Not walk. Run!
I’ve been working so hard at this blog for quite some time now and I think I am finally starting to see an increase in traffic. Exciting!
I’ve started my Facebook page here but I really need to dive into how Facebook works for blogs. It seems like I can get a lot of traffic and reach a lot of people this way.
I’ve taken Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing by Michelle Schroeder-Gardner of Making Sense of Cents. I’ve implemented a lot of what she taught in the course and I continue to go back to it to double check and make sure I am on the right path with affiliate marketing.
Something no one tells you when you start to blog is that it can be a full time job between writing, promoting, and making your blog better. I am constantly thinking about the things I need to learn and should be doing. There are only so many hours in the day, so I am just trying to learn as much as I can without cutting into anything else.
So, overall August was kind of boring. I should have done more, but the couple things I did do I really enjoyed and made the month. I will hopefully try and make September count. It’ll be nice to have cooler weather and still do a lot of outdoor activities with my family.
We have to plan a trip home to visit family in September, but I think that’s the only thing on our horizon.
