Halloween Spider and Bat Crafts for Kids | Spit Up and Sit Ups

I love super easy crafts to do with my three year old. These three Halloween crafts feature a Spider Web made out of yarn and a paper plate, a Spider using a cardboard egg carton and pipe cleaners and a toilet paper bat with wings!

I always get the crating bug as soon as fall is near. I want to bake all the pies, pick all the apples and make cute little decorations for my home.

Now that my son is getting older and he’s able to follow directions better, I love including him in my crafting time. Today we’re making a Halloween Spider and Bat Craft that’s super easy for kids and will look adorable in your home.

I put these three crafts together to make a Spider Web with Spider and Bat but you can make each piece individually without the need for the other!

These three crafts can be made on their own by your kids or put them together like I did for a cute DIY Halloween wreath. I like hanging my son’s creations around so we’ll keep the spider web, spider and bat together for Halloween. He also loves seeing his art around and showing it off to visitors.

Paper Plate Spider Web

For the Paper Plate Spider Web:

  • Paper Plate
  • Blade (to cut middle of plate out – Adults do this!)
  • Single Hole Punch
  • Black Paint and Brush
  • White Yarn
  • Spider if not making the egg carton spider below!

Directions:

  1. Cut a hole in the center of your plate.
  2. Evenly use the single hole punch to create holes to weave the white yarn. I used the lines on the plate to help me keep track.
  3. Paint your plate black and let dry.
  4. Once your plate is dry, take white yarn (I used two arm lengths to make sure we had enough), create a knot and make long enough to create a hook after. Let your child weave the yarn in and out of the holes in whatever pattern they choose. I let my son have at it with this step. I try not to tell him what to do beyond the simple directions of weaving.
  5. Leave a strand of yarn hanging to tie on or glue on your Egg Carton Spider or small spider of your choosing.

Toilet Paper Roll Bat

For the Toilet Paper Roll Bat:

  • Toilet Paper Roll
  • Black Paint and Brush
  • Googly Eyes
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Purple Construction Paper
  • Single Hole Punch
  • Black Pipe Cleaners

Directions:

  1. Use your single hole punch to put two holes on the back side of your Toilet Paper Roll Bat.
  2. Paint the toilet paper roll black and let dry.
  3. As the toilet paper roll is drying, freehand draw the wings with the purple construction paper and cut. If your child is older, have them do the wings!
  4. Once dry, glue the wings and googly eyes onto your Bat.
  5. Cut the long black pipe cleaners in half and use the holes from step 1 to twist the legs on. You will use these legs to hang your cute spider upside down on the Paper Plate Spider Web or wherever you choose.

Egg Carton Spider

For the Egg Carton Spider:

  • Egg Carton
  • Black Paint and Brush
  • Googly Eyes
  • Black Pipe Cleaners
  • Single Hole Punch
  • Glue
  • Scissors

Directions:

  1. Make your spider using scissors and the egg carton. I used the size of two to make it a bit smaller to go with my Paper Plate Spider Web without it dragging it down. You can make as big or as small as you’d like.
  2. Use the single hole punch and put 8 holes for 8 legs around the body of the Egg Carton Spider.
  3. Paint your spider black and let dry.
  4. Once dry, glue your googly eyes, or in my case eye, onto your spider. Cut your black pipe cleaners in half and slide through the holes you created earlier. Position to stand or if you are using the Paper Plate Spider Web, slide through a hole on the web to stick! Remember to tie or glue the hanging strand around your spider!

Put All Three Together!

How cute is this craft when you combine all three? Hook the legs of the spider and bat into the holes of your spider web!
